Sammy Dale Bruce Sr., 77, of Hemlock passed away at his home on September 4, 2020.
He was born January 19, 1943 in Nelsonville. He was a son of Henry S. and Freda May (Paulk) Bruce.
Sammy was a long-time coal miner and a full-time junker. He was a graduate of Buchtel-York High School. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and spent countless hours listening to their games on the radio.
He is survived by daughters Dorothy Young, Beth (Tony) Wilson, Jana Bruce, and Amy (Brad) Kirkpatrick; and son Sammy Dale (Lynn) Bruce Jr.
Sammy, “Pappy”, was a loving and goofy grandfather to the grandchildren he raised- Twila (Joey) Gilvin, Tracy Muncy, Amy (Jamey) Starlin, William (Abby) Fralick, Andrea (Daniel) Cupp, Charles Hook, and Jeanne Bruce.
He is also survived by brothers Carl Bruce and Richard (Tempa) Bruce; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Denny Bruce, Herman Laning, and Roger Bruce; sisters Martha Martin, Barbara Conkey, and Patricia Spencer; and two grandsons Timmy Wilson and Charles Maffin.
Friends may call from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Friday, Sept. 11 at the J.E. HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME, 118 W. Walnut Street, SHAWNEE, Ohio.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, 11:00 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Fitch officiating.
Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Millertown, Ohio.
