Leona M. “Nonie” Eickel Pompey passed away Monday, September 13, 2021, at the Highland Oaks Care Center, McConnelsville with her daughters by her side.
She was born June 21, 1929, in Corning a daughter of the late Henry and Julia Lusetti Eickel.
Nonie graduated from Corning High School in 1947.She was an avid sports fan. That passion continued throughout the athletic careers of her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She had a special seat in the bleachers at Miller High School!
She married the love of her life October 1, 1949 and could still be seen sitting on the couch holding hands after 70 years!
Nonie was employed by Southern Local Schools as cafeteria cook at Corning Elementary where she served the children for 25 years. Often some of her fondest memories.
Her greatest joy was her family. She loved the Hoilday Season and would spoil all family members with gifts and unconditional love.
She is survived by her daughters LeeAnna (Charlie) Doughty and Mary Lou Wycinski; daughter in law Beth Pompey; sister Jeanne Eickel Banevich; her brother Tim Eickel; grandchildren Rebecca Doughty, Cheryl Dutiel, Jason Pompey, Doyd (Tanya) Wycinski, Melanie (Mark) Heim and Jeannie (Ginger) Wycinski; ten great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her devoted husband Michael Pompey Jr.; her loving son Mitch Pompey; her sisters Catherine Eickel Dew and Helen Eickel Dodson and son in law, Donovan Jay Wycinski.
