Janet Blosser Obituary

Janet K Reed Blosser, 82, passed peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Fairfield Medical Center.

Janet was born on January 21, 1942, the daughter of the late Ralph and Kathryn (Katty) Reed of McCuneville, Ohio. She was a 1959 graduate of Shawnee High School and an active participant in the coordination of the Shawnee Alumni’s annual celebration. She retired from New Lexington City Schools where she was a bus driver for 34 years. During her time as a bus driver, she entered and won first place in the Regional Bus Road-e-o on May 2, 1981. After retirement, she took the Para Pro Test and was a substitute teacher. Janet was later employed by Perry County transit as a driver, and then became a homecare assistant at Residential.

Janet was a certified bowling coach and coached Junior bowlers at Fiore Lanes in New Lexington for 47 years. During this time, she bowled in six leagues and was secretary/treasurer, for most of those leagues. She was a Director for the Zanesville Women’s Bowling Association for 20 years, vice president and director for the Zanesville Junior Bowling Association for 47 years, and a delegate for the state of Ohio Junior Bowling Association. She was elected Ohio’s coach of the year in 2012 and placed into the Bowlers Hall of Fame for the Women’s Bowling Association in 2010. She ended her coaching career as a coach for the New Lexington High School girls bowling team. Janet also was a 4-H leader and participated at many fairs and events.

After working full-time until she was 79 years old, she remained very independent and active and filled her time with the Monday afternoon bowling league at Tiki lanes, Tuesday euchre club at the senior center, and Friday night bingo at the American Legion. In her free time, she made lots of homemade candy and cakes and loved going to the casino.

She was a longtime member of the New Lexington Baptist Church, and most recently attended the Shawnee Mission.

Janet married Alva Lee “Cork” Blosser on November 22, 1960. She is survived by her son Curtis L. (Kathy) Blosser and daughter Diana J. Blosser. Grandchildren Dustin L. (Kayla Russell) Starner, Katrina R. (Dustin Hickey) Blosser, Katana L. (Travis) Loy, and Averi N. (Spencer) Hamilton. Great grandchildren Remington, Declan, and Myles.
