James William “Bill” Barnes 84 of Shawnee passed away Monday August 24, 2020 at SKLD New Lexington Care Center.
He was born January 6, 1936 in Clinton, Ohio a son of the late Ebert William and Julia Balind Barnes.
He was a retired welder for Ferro Alloys of Philo and a member and longtime Chaplin of Shawnee Masonic Lodge # 526 and was a member and Past Patron of Bluebell Chapter 151 O.E.S.., he loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping, growing trees, gardening, caring for his dogs and farrets, rooting for OSU and his beloved Cleveland Indians and he always had a smile and joke for everyone.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years Mary Lou Slatzer Barnes; his daughters Julie (Bob) Davis, Jill Swingle and Susan (Kurt) Miller; his sisters Barbara Sue (John) Toney, Elsie Thomas, Neva Decore and Gloria Finck; his brothers Paul “ Butch” (Anna) Barnes and George(Mary) Barnes, 6 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son William Michael “Bill” Barnes; his sister Mary Ann Reed and his father and mother in law Dick and Avonelle Slatzer.
Per Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place
The family can only hope that he finally found the answer to his eternal question: If a chicken and a half can lay an egg and a half in a day and a half, how long would it take a one legged grasshopper to kick the seeds out of a dill pickle?
Masonic services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday September 5, 2020 at the J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home.
