Doak L. Davis, the King of Shawnee, has left his earthly throne and is rejoicing with the King of Kings. Doak went home to be with his Lord on January 3, 2025, at age 73. Doak was a devoted son to his late parents, Nathan and Betty; a dear brother to Drew (Sandy) and the late Catherine; a dear brother in Christ to Jeremiah and Holly Schluep; and a loving uncle to Michael (Paytra), Kacy (Michael), Annie (Darrell), John, Drew (Tamara), Joseph, and to 11 great-nieces and nephews and 5 great-great-nieces and nephews. Doak was born September 10, 1951, in Logan, Ohio. His family later moved to Chicago, IL, where he encountered Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, sparking a lifelong admiration for the Queen, the Royal Family and all things British; then to Painesville, Ohio where he attended Harvey High School and Lake Erie College. Following college, Doak spent his life in Shawnee, Ohio, the home of his grandparents and the birthplace of his parents. Doak truly loved the town of Shawnee, and Shawnee loved him, crowning him honorary King. Generations of students were taught by Doak during his 32 year career at New Lexington Middle School, where he was a friend to all and was admired by students, staff and faculty alike. His devotion to New Lexington Middle School continued as he volunteered at the school following his 2006 retirement until his passing. Doak enjoyed worshipping and being part of the church family at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Logan, Ohio for the last several years. With his warm, outgoing personality, Doak made friends everywhere he went; his social calendar was full of adventures near and far, and he was always up for a meal out. He was a loyal, generous friend to so many, and many of his friendships were lifelong. If the measure of a man can be counted in his friends, Doak was a great man indeed! He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1:00pm, followed by a luncheon, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 6935 Township Rd. 234, Logan, OH 43138.
