David L. Slatzer, 83, of New Lexington passed away March 25, 2023, at the New Lexington Care and Rehabilitation Center. Dave was born December 9, 1939, in Shawnee, Ohio. He was a son of the late Clayton and Gladys (Duncan) Slatzer.
Dave was a United States Marine Corp veteran and was a lifetime member of the New Lexington Eagles #2070 and the New Lexington Elks Lodge #509. He was the lead singer and guitar player for the band, “Country Blue Boys”. Dave retired from the engineering department of ITT Higbie Manufacturing Company. He spent his retirement years working as a caterer of smoked meats.
He is survived by his children Lori (Brian) Courtney, Dave (Sheryl) Slatzer, Stacie (Brent) Kingseed, Jackie (Mike) King, Scott (Melissa) Slatzer, Mike (Tara) Slatzer, Jodi (Dale) Klingler; sisters Darlene Fitzgerald and Donna Conn; brother Charles Slatzer; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; special nephew Mark Conn; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sandy (Hoops) Slatzer; significant other Paullette Bishop; daughter Sheryl Mathis; siblings Bernice Stickdorn and Clayton Slatzer. Friends may call 2:00-6:00 PM on Friday, March 31 at the JE HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME, 118 W. WALNUT STREET, SHAWNEE, OHIO. A military service will take place at 6:00 PM. Honoring Dave’s wishes, cremation will follow the service.
